A thriving economic climate
Scotland has an innovative, competitive and thriving international financial services industry. The country is supported by world-class infrastructure and is universally recognised as a global finance leader, offering an ideal location to further your career. Scotland is, in fact, the fifth largest financial services centre in Europe, and in the UK, Edinburgh is the largest centre outside London. Seven of the top 20 companies in Scotland are financial services companies and the industry accounts for around £5 billion or 6% of Scotland's GDP.
Scotland has a long history (and excellent reputation) in investment and fund management. Major life companies, related asset managers and a number of smaller but successful specialists all thrive here. Indeed, over £300 billion of funds are managed directly in Scotland, including investments in global equities and bonds.
Edinburgh is beautiful
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland in so many ways. A location that mixes old-world charm and historic grandeur with the contemporary air of a cosmopolitan, 21st century city.
Auld Reekie - positioned on a series of extinct volcanoes – is a mixture of beautiful buildings from the medieval Old Town and the Georgian symmetry of the New Town, all overlooked by the famous castle. Not surprisingly, the centre of Edinburgh is a UNESCO world heritage site.
Ideally located
Edinburgh is very compact with excellent public transport – nowhere is very far away whether you’re going to work, shopping, meeting up with friends or visiting the theatre.
There are many areas of outstanding beauty within easy reach of the city including the Trossachs - a stunning area of lochs and mountains; a haven for walkers and water sports enthusiasts alike. If beaches and summer BBQs are more your thing, then take the road to North Berwick – the coastline alongside it is awash with great beach locations.
Edinburgh International Airport is well connected, with regular flights to both the UK and Europe, with many holiday operators offering packages that leave from the capital or Glasgow (an hour’s drive away).
Reasonable
With some of the best restaurants, theatres, galleries and museums in the UK, Edinburgh has attractions for everyone’s budget. There’s a wide range of property available from new houses to traditional tenement flats which are over a hundred years old.
Exciting
Everyone knows that Edinburgh is the Festival city. It hosts the International Festival, Fringe Festival, a Jazz Festival, Books Festival and Film Festival – and that’s just August. But it doesn’t let up - no matter what time of year it is, there’s always something happening, whatever you’re into.
There are the stylish bars of George Street and the traditional pubs of the Grassmarket. During the day café society dominates and when the sun goes down the nightclubs take over. Edinburgh also has some of the best restaurants in the UK, taking in the world famous opulence of the Witchery, some of the top curry houses in Scotland and everything in between.
