Juan Valenzuela
I worked for 3 years in JPMorgan where I undertook a variety of roles such as corporate actions/pricing analyst, centralised pricing utility team leader and yield analyst. I also obtained the IAQ and IMC qualifications. My last position provided the opportunity to expand my knowledge and interest of fixed income assets which subsequently led to my desire to focus my career on this asset class.
In 2006 I joined SWIP as investment assistant within the Global Bonds and Economics team. My responsibilities allowed me to get involved in the management of the funds, as the first contact for the middle/back office teams, marketing team and the brokers. In 2007 I started working within the Portfolio Management Unit as Fixed Income Dealer, transacting Fixed Income instruments.
In the time I have been employed by SWIP I have had the support to progress in my career and complete the CFA level I and II. In order to have a successful career in investment, I think you need to develop a good knowledge of all financial instruments and understanding of how they affect the fixed income market. Be able to evolve along with the markets and new products and be able to translate the financial / social / political events into investment decisions. You must have good communication skills, be able to build & maintain good working relationships with everyone involved in the asset management industry, from the operations staff to brokers and clients. You must continually develop your understanding of the current market conditions and make investment decisions ahead of future changes.
